(New York) September 9, 2008 – In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s first performance in 1958, all tickets will be on sale for $19.58 at Target 1958 Night for the December 4th 8:00pm performance at New York City Center.  This extraordinary evening, sponsored by Target, underscores Alvin Ailey’s belief that “dance comes from the people and should be delivered back to the people,” and these specially-priced tickets fulfill Ailey’s mission to make dance accessible to everyone.  In honor of Alvin Ailey’s pioneering legacy, a program of classic Ailey works will be performed, including a new production of Mr. Ailey’s masterpiece Blues Suite, first seen at the Company’s premiere performance in 1958, and his most beloved ballet, Revelations
 
These specially-priced tickets are made possible by Target and will only be available at the Target 1958 Night On-Sale Party on Saturday, September 13th from 10:00 am - 8:00 pm at the atrium just west of New York City Center (West 55th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues).  Special free activities for ticket buyers will be featured throughout the day, including free dance classes, a DJ, and a Target lounge with showings of Ailey films.  Arrive early for the best seats as vouchers to purchase tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.  Tickets are limited to four per person.  For further information, visit www.alvinailey.org/target1958.  
 
Each performance during Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s 2008 New York City Center 50th Anniversary season, from December 3, 2008-January 4, 2009, will begin with a short film entitled Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater at 50 – A Golden Anniversary Celebration.  To commemorate fifty years of groundbreaking dance, Ailey’s 18-month 50th Anniversary will continue over the next year with a 50-city global tour and special commemorative merchandise, such as: Hallmark Ailey greeting cards; Ailey/Celebration Calendar and Ailey Ascending, a photographic art book, both by Andrew Eccles; Ailey Movado Museum Time Piece and an Ailey Barbie® Doll.  For details, visit: www.alvinailey.org/50.
