Ailey Extension Celebrates Black History Month With The Launch Of Ailey Legacy On-Demand Series And Themed Workshops

(NEW YORK) February 2, 2022 – In celebration of Black History Month, Ailey Extension is launching Ailey Legacy On-Demand, a series of on-demand workshops taught by the stars of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and presenting a variety of workshops and classes that highlight Black contributions to the world of dance. Each day in February students of all experience levels can explore street styles such as hip-hop and Afro’Dance, dive into Afro-Latin techniques from Cuba and Brazil, and immerse themselves in traditional West African dance with Ailey’s elite instructors either in-studio at the Joan Weill Center for Dance – NYC’s largest building dedicated to dance – or virtually from wherever they are located.

Spring Into Dance With Ailey Extension's Special Virtual Workshops As Well As New Kids & Teens Online Session

(New York) March 9, 2021 – Ailey Extension is dancing into Spring with fresh new weekend workshops that introduce adults, children, and teens to new dance techniques. On Saturday, March 20, adult students are invited to mark the first day of Spring in three unique workshops: Absolute Beginner Ballet focusing on fundamental vocabulary, a Horton masterclass teaching the technique seen in many of Alvin Ailey’s classic works, and an Afro-Cuban dance experience complete with live music. Seasonal festivities continue a week later with a cheerful Masala Bhangra workshop celebrating the Hindu Spring “festival of colors”. Young dancers ages 5-17 are welcome to join in the dance during the Kids & Teens Online Spring session (March 1 – May 2) which features age-appropriate classes – such as a new Junior Broadway Jazz for tweens and Teen Contemporary – that allow students to build confidence as they work on their dance skills. Each of these new virtual workshops and classes are open to students of all levels, offering experienced and beginner dancers around the world the chance to learn from elite instructors.

Ailey Extension Reveals Workshops Related To Ailey's New York City Center Season, New Classes, And Holiday Promotions

(New York) November 5, 2019 – Boost your dance skills at Ailey Extension this November with specialized workshops and new classes led by Ailey’s extended family of movement experts. Dancers of all experience levels will have several chances throughout the month to train with the esteemed choreographers and trainers helping Ailey dancers prepare for the upcoming holiday season engagement at New York City Center. This month’s workshops allow dancers to receive hands-on modern dance coaching with Ailey Rehearsal Director Matthew Rushing; learn a spiritually refreshing mix of modern and African dance from celebrated Choreographer Ronald K. Brown, whose work remains part of Ailey’s current repertory; and build endurance fit for a dancer with Master Trainer Steven Lopez, who trains his Ailey dancer wife Constance Stamatiou between performance seasons. With new workshops, classes, and promotional deals, students have a wider range of opportunities to sharpen their dance skills.
