Janelle Issis is best known for her contagious laugh and her sultry elegance on the hit U.S. show “So You Think You Can Dance” Season 9 as the top 6th female finalist and the only classically trained bellydancer ever to hit the stage. From the age of 4 Janelle was protege to “Aziza of Birmingham,” studying Classic Egyptian Bellydance, and continued to learn other forms through various outlets throughout her youth. Later she attended the University of Alabama and accomplished her BA in Dance Performance learning under Cornelius Carter of Alvin Ailey and well as her Nutrition degree. Janelle currently travels teaching with "Hollywood Dance Jamz" and “Showstoppers On Tour,” and just recently debut in her first international T-Mobile commercial with artist J.Balvin! In 2018 she moved to NYC and has loved the opportunity to teach at Broadway Dance Center influencing more beautiful minds in the Art of Bellydance! She performed on Good Morning America with Derek and Julianne Hough while working with Tabitha and Napoleon and you can also find her in the video of the new hit single “YOGA” with Janelle Monae. Her love for the art of choreography is clear when watching Janelle teach; her unique style of intermingling elements of Classic Egyptian Bellydance with other forms drives her to create exciting innovative work. Her heart-felt work does not stop there; she has trained in multiple genres of dance including; contemporary, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, Bollywood, modern, tap, salsa/ partnering, and more. Her training at the University of Alabama, Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, and Birmingham has led her to teach and perform across the United States

Fit And Fabulous Fun During National Physical Fitness Month With Virtual Classes and Special Workshops At Ailey Extension

New York, NY – May 5, 2021 – Ailey Extension has kicked off National Physical Fitness Month with an invitation for people around the world to have fun being fit and fabulous during in an array of virtual classes and special workshops. Ailey All Access Premieres Special Cry Film Adaptation on Mother's Day In Conjunction With The 50th Anniversary Of The Beloved Work

In a joyful nod to the 50th anniversary of Alvin Ailey’s beloved work, Cry, viewers will be treated to a new film adaptation of Jacqueline Green interpreting the extraordinary solo premiering on a Mother’s Day Matinee, on Sunday, May 9 at 3pm EDT. Created as a birthday present for Alvin Ailey’s mother Mrs. Lula Cooper, Cry debuted May 4, 1971 and is dedicated to “all Black women everywhere – especially our mothers.”
