Troy Powell remembers the late Alvin Ailey fondly. The legendary choreographer saw something in Powell at nine years old and recruited him for a children’s program after leading a masterclass at his elementary school. Perhaps that’s why, when asked about Ailey’s legacy, Powell says simply, “It's magical.”
ANTUAN BYERS (Dallas, TX) is a graduate of the Ailey/Fordham BFA Program in Dance and an alumnus of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. While on scholarship at Dallas Black Dance Theatre and Dallas Ballet Center, he trained at Northwest Dance Project, Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and Jacob’s Pillow. Mr. Byers performed with artists Erykah Badu and D.R.A.M., and has partnerships with ASICS, Barney’s NY, Capezio, and Jaguar. He has also danced with The Metropolitan Opera, The Washington National Opera, Keigwin + Company, and in Nick Cave’s “The Let Go.” Mr. Byers has performed works by Kyle Abraham, Kim Brandstrup, Francesca Harper, Johan Inger, Jiří Kylián, Alexei Ratmansky, Hofesh Shechter, and Christopher Wheeldon. This is his second season with Ailey II.
